EurAsia Heart Foundation – worldwide help from Switzerland!

As Swiss people, we benefit daily from one of the best health care systems in the world. We often forget that many people, and especially many children, have no or only minimal medical support. EurAsia Heart consists of a group of European doctors and nurses specializing in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in children, adolescents and adults. Acting on the principle of «help to self-help», the foundation’s doctors and nurses engage in continuous cooperation and education in developing and emerging countries.

CARDIOLOGY

Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts waren die Herz-Kreislauferkrankungen weltweit für weniger als 10 % der Todesfälle verantwortlich, gegen Ende bereits für knapp 50 %. Im Bereich der Herzchirurgie, invasiven Kardiologie und der interventionellen Kardiologie ist es zu einer erheblichen Leistungsausweitung gekommen.

ANESTHESIA

Erst die Anästhesie macht viele medizinische Eingriffe und Heilungsprozesse möglich. Dank dem hochprofessionellen Team von Anästhesiologen ist unsere Arbeit sicher, schonend und individuell einsetzbar.

INTENSIVE MEDICINE

Auf Intensivstationen werden Patienten aufgenommen, deren Zustand lebensbedrohlich ist, dazu gehören auch Zustände nach umfangreichen, langdauernden und stark eingreifenden Operationen. Ohne Spezialisten mit langjähriger internationaler Erfahrung kommen die Missionen nicht aus.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

Massnahmen, die darauf abzielen, Risiken zu verringern oder die schädlichen Folgen von der Krankheit abzuschwächen.

Hospitals all over the world benefit from the expertise of the specialists who are on duty free of charge. With the help of teaching and training, this expertise is passed on to local staff, thus enabling sustainable help for self-help and strengthening the local health system.

A large number of babies with congenital heart defects die although they could be treated. In children under 5 years of age, untreated heart defects are the main cause of death.

Cooperation on site

EurAsia Heart Foundation is not an organisation that works temporarily as a closed team on site during disasters. The doctors of the foundation are involved in continuous, further educational cooperation on site and also support prevention and teaching.

EurAsia Heart Foundation does not provide funds to finance «hardware» – building fabric or technical equipment. The aim of the Foundation is to exchange «knowledge», «skills» and «abilities» in diagnostics, therapy and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, EurAsia Heart Foundation provides additional knowledge from areas that are closely involved in the interdisciplinary treatment of cardiovascular diseases, such as infectious diseases, hygiene or data collection and data analysis.

The attractiveness of EurAsia Heart Foundation has led to a flood of inquiries from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

Our approach

Transferring knowledge, experience and skills directly to the local centres – this is the most effective way of support. The aim of EurAsia Heart Foundation is to guide, support and assist local professionals and to verify the application of what has been learned. This leads to the improvement of existing skills and the acquisition of new knowledge and skills. All topics relevant to improving patient care are discussed. The difficult interventions on site are carried out by the experts of EurAsia Heart Foundation themselves – if desired or indicated.

In order to cope with the increasing number of requests, EurAsia Heart Foundation cooperates with leading centres worldwide.

In the first years, the focus of the work was mainly on cardiology and cardiovascular surgery in children, adolescents and adults. Increasingly, however, enquiries from foreign centres also concern other specialist areas such as abdominal surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics or oncology.

EurAsia Heart Foundation cooperates with leading centres worldwide.

Aim of our cooperation

A one-to-one training on site - at their home, on their equipment, in their own clinic.

  • To reduce the mortality rate during surgery.

  • To reduce the complication rate during and after the operation, thus reducing the number of patients with secondary damage.

  • To expand the spectrum of therapy and diagnostics so that more patients receive the treatment they need.

  • To demonstrate cost efficiency in the treatment of patients with heart disease.

  • To promote international cooperation.

  • To organize and manage research and teaching in the context of international multi-centre studies and to guarantee implementation in accordance with the guidelines.

On-site training is based on

four conditions

1. Local Administration

The local administration including the ministry of health and the government agrees to support the work of EurAsia Heart Foundation.

2. Local Infrastructure

The cooperation uses only the local infrastructure which usually serves the local team.

3. Stable Team

A stable team which can be educated is the prerequisite for the cooperation with EurAsia Heart Foundation.

4. Long-term Cooperation

The development of a cardiovascular department is time consuming. Hence, cooperation with EurAsia heart means a long-term cooperation.

Balance sheet, income statement and statement of account

All members of the Board of Trustees work for the Foundation on an honorary and unpaid basis.

No fees are paid for operations and no compensation is paid for loss of earnings.

All donations flow completely into the projects of the EurAsia Heart Foundation.
